Lately my hair has been falling out in hand fulls. I don't know if it is a hormonal thing that has been going on since I stopped nursing (over 10 months ago), if maybe it is stress or even if it might be some sort of vitamin deficiency. I am lucky that I have a lot of hair, it is fine but there is a lot of it. Which brings up another possible reason, I do pony tails a lot!
I don't think that anyone should feel ashamed of hair loss that results in bald spots or overall baldness. However, I do know that if my current hair loss resulted in bald spots I would seek treatment. I know that for me it would be a self-esteem issue. Now, as much as I might fuss about my hair not doing what I want it to, I would not be comfortable was overly thinning or baldness.
Nu/Hart Hair Clinics would definitely be a place to start. Their consultations are always free, confidential and with no obligation. They have 12 physicians who have specialized in hair loss treatment. They have 10 centers worldwide and have 20 years of experience in this field. Since the consultations are risk free, if you are concerned about thinning hair, there is nothing to lose.
