My views, Chapter 1

I am been working on this post in my mind for some time. I am not one to really post on things political. I will disclose here and now that for the most part I tend to agree with conservative point of views. I have voted in every election I could since turning 18 and I did not always pick the Republican candidate.

I do have opinions but I seldom express them outside my comfort zone, in other words around people who I am not sure where their opinions lie. I am college educated and according to my Mom, barely. However, my degree is not in political science, ecology, chemistry, biology, engineering, economics or anything else that might lend some kind of expertise to my thoughts. So, I sit back and listen or read, I might start to post a comment regarding fuel prices or the election but then I just erase it, I don't want to sound stupid.

However, the past couple of weeks I keep reading more and more on various blogs about these political and environmental issues, so I have decided to put my 2 cents out there and not care if you think I am wrong or not care if someone who views things differently leaves me a ranting comment. And most of all not care that people will notice I have a run-on sentence issue.

I am going to start with gas prices and drilling on American soil and along the coast lines. I do know this fact we are dependent on oil and this is not going away tomorrow or the next day. As long as the demand for oil continues to rise the price is going to do the same. I don't have an answer and I hope and pray that people smarter than I are working diligently to fix this. That said, from what I understand the oil companies now have better ways of drilling that are less harmful to the environment. So, here is a question for everyone. Do we only care about the environment in America or is it a worldwide care? If the answer is worldwide why wouldn't we use our better drilling techniques here in America instead of using the oil from other areas where the drilling is more harmful?

Now, I want to list some of the things I have come across and would love to have your input on one or all...

1.) I read a concern that if we drill here and get the prices down then we will again become satisfied and stop looking for alternative energy.

---Personally, I think this is a very valid concern. However, I hope we are finally starting to learn a very valuable lesson. Car companies are coming up with cars that use less gas, supposedly a Japanese car company has designed a car that runs on water. So we are moving in the right direction and if the people of America and the world continue to DEMAND these products and these changes the people that want to make you happy (corporate entities that want your money) they will continue to try and get you what you want.

I also think that there are companies everywhere really trying to come up with alternative energy sources, as my husband has pointed out who ever comes up with it is probably going to be make a pretty penny. Therefore, why should we spend spend our tax dollars on this? I think someone will come up with it but I just don't think it will be the government...

2.) I saw today where some people want the government to take over the business of oil.

---I want to know one thing that the government has taken over that was a success. If the government takes over we are going to be the one paying for it and I doubt they have profit sharing. Again, just my thoughts until someone can give me a good enough argument in the other direction.

3.) What about we put drilling in America on the ballot? We have public and televised debates from both sides of the issue and let the public decide. Right now my belief that Congress actually does what the people who put them in office want is very low. So let's take it out of their hands and decide ourselves.

I originally meant for this post to be all inclusive with the issues that are concerning me now, but I am going to post one at a time instead.

I would love to hear you thoughts and be kind please don't "yell". As a people we need to learn to converse and listen to what the other person has to say. We need to learn to compromise and do the best we can for a better today and tomorrow!

I'm like you- I like to keep my opinions to myself. I do think you have some great questions- and I don't have the answers. I do know that people are quick to criticize and I do it too. But I sure wouldn't want to be the one in the place to make all of these tough decisions. Hopefully you have some more intelligent readers who will have some actual answers to your questions ;)

Excellent commentary Toni. I have two separate blogs..my personal blog and my political blog so that I don't have to mix the two. You may have been over at my political blog already thebobofiles.com

I actually started blogging with my political blog and found that just got to be way to heavy doing that all the time..that's why I started My Frakkin Blog!

Anyway - I've posted up several articles on this topic so I'm not going to rehash them all here. Let's just say, I agree with everything you posted here.

And..thanks for updating my badge over there. I appreciate it!

Hi, moving towards more political issues instead of your usual family blog? Good to have some changes once in a while! : )
I wish Governments all over the world seriously think about alternative ways to power a car. Oil won't last very long. We should not depend on it.
Wow, if we could use water to run our cars, that'll be ideal. But I suspect oil companies will go all out to stop it!

Hello Toni, I have a lot of friends very much like you--not much into politics and arguing about it. They do care about their community and they do vote; they are busy with family and work so they need to prioritize.
On the drilling issue--well, you've already visited my blog (thank you) and know where I stand: Hard working American families are going to feel the pain in energy costs (not just gasoline) for the foreseeable future because our government refuses to increase domestic production (Petroleum and Nuclear). It will be interesting to see how this all pans out once Americans figure out that they are going to have to fork over a large amount of their family income to satisfy Environmentalist lobby goals.
I agree with all of your ideas, there are millions of families out there that probably feel the same way you do--and they have powerful voices too.
Thanks again for the visit to my site.
