Green Is The New Black

Everywhere you look someone is talking about "going green". I think that it is a fact that the Earth is getting warmer, but I don't know that it has been proven that it is the human race that is causing it. However, God has given us this beautiful planet to live on and I think that we should make a concerted effort to take care of it.

Here at the Brandt house we are taking small steps and a lot of things that you can do to "Go Green" - just let me know when you are tired of my "quote fingers" - can help you out financially as well. We recycle cans, and are slowly but surely changing over our light bulbs, at this point 50% of the lights used are the energy smart kind. We don't throw away the news paper but we use it for our wood fireplace in the winter, so that may actually be worse, not sure. We recycle a lot of our cardboard, as I type this I am thinking I am going to step that up a notch. The other day at the grocery store I bought recycled garbage bags. They were actually less expensive than all the others. I am anxious to see how well they work. I have also purchased some of those reusable sacs at the grocery store to cut down on how many plastic bags I have, now if I could always remember to take them shopping with me. I also return the majority of the plastic bags back to the store. I say majority because we do reuse them around the house as well. I am trying to be more conscious of running water and where the thermostat is set. I do try to combine my excursions out as best as I can. We also have a garden where we get a lot of our vegetable from during the summer.

Hopefully, if I can get through my medical transcription training and get a second income coming in I can get a new dishwasher, washing machine and dryer and I will get ones that are Energy Star approved.

Okay I must now head over to The Other Huse for my American Idol update; I did not see it all last night I know she will have some great recaps and I can't wait to see what she has to say about Paula's outfit!

Hi Toni,

Just popped by to say Hi.
Time seems to fly by.
Hope the diet is still going well?

We do our part as much as we can. I think your list pretty much matches our list. We use reusable bags and bins for groceries (and have for a few years now) and after a while it just becomes habit to throw them in the trunk.

I like your statement about how much of Global Warming is caused by Humans or how much is part of God's plan. I think of this often as the weather is so cyclical that perhaps this has always been the plan.

Wow, I'm exhausted just reading your post. It's not easy being green. (hmm...someone should make that a song) :-) But, I'm proud of you for working so hard on it!

And thanks for the kudos! You're so sweet! How about result night tonight? I'll have a short post about that one!

by the way, sorry I probably disappointed you with not many comments on Paula. After I saw the fingerless leather on her arms I pretty much fast forwarded through any airtime she received.
